SCOTUS’s decision this week undoes the hard-fought work that activists, lawyers, grassroots groups, and others have done to ensure not only that people have the right to vote but also that their votes are weighted equally.
Similar to abortion rights and affirmative action, SCOTUS removed 40 years of precedent for the benefit of Republicans and Project 2025. And let’s be clear, this could have been avoided. Biden had the opportunity to expand the courts and didn’t.
Now we’re paying the price.
As the head of the NAACP stated on social media, this is a betrayal, but it will not stop Black voters, Hispanic voters, and other minority groups in this country from making their voices heard. We will be there in numbers to vote.
