our Mission
We are residents of New York’s 17th Congressional District, united in our commitment to defend democracy and oppose any actions that undermine the rights and freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution. In their efforts to weaken institutions and erode democratic norms, we stand together to ensure that the current administration is held accountable, upholding civil liberties and justice for everyone.
We are an inclusive and diverse movement.
We are and stand with people of color, LGBTQIA, women, men, immigrants, and survivors. Our strength lies in our diversity, and we are dedicated to creating a space where everyone feels valued and empowered.
Our actions include:
Holding elected officials accountable through civic engagement, advocacy, and direct action.
Building coalitions with local organizations to amplify our collective voice. There is strength in numbers!
Supporting policies and candidates that champion democratic values and equal representation.
Mobilizing our community to stay informed and actively participate in the democratic process.
Together, we strive to preserve and strengthen the democratic principles that are the foundation of our society.
Our Approach
Whether we're hosting a local event or showing up at our State Senator's office, Indivisible Rockland is committed to taking direct actions that push for change in our community.
EDUCATING OUR CONSTITUENTS
Educating our constituents about the complicated legislative issues impacting our community and giving them the power to take action.
HOLDING OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS ACCOUNTABLE
Ensuring our elected officials, regardless of political party, speak for their constituents.
Direct Action
Whether organizing a public protest, town hall or boycott, we are prepared to show our Representatives that we are committed to saving Democracy.
Code of Conduct
For all IROC interactions on all channels, in person and hybrid meetings
Our meetings, even those in public spaces, are strategic. We ask that you refrain from recording and posting the contents of our meetings. This will also allow members to speak freely without fear of retaliation for comments taken out of content. We also do not want to tip our hand to those who will want to suppress our effort.
Rigorous discussions and debates are hallmarks of any civil rights and social justice organization.
Learning and growing together allows us to develop a more unified perspective that prepares us to fight for our rights.
We welcome input from each person present in our meetings. We expect our interactions to be conducted with civility and respect, as individuals committed to the same struggle.
Bias, discrimination and harassment are prohibited. Actions such as verbal or non-verbal abuse, negative stereotyping of any group, sexual and gender-based epithets or slurs, denigrating jokes, and calling out specific individuals constitute misconduct and are not welcomed.
Inspired by the life of MLK we will adopt the following four steps, articulated in the Letter from Birmingham Jail, before we undertake any direct action:
Fact collection: Determine if injustices exist
Negotiation: Try to reach an agreement
Self-purification: Prepare for direct action by asking yourself if you can accept blows without retaliating
Direct action: Use your body to present your case to the community
Indivisible Rockland Organizing Committee is a safe place for everybody, regardless of Gender, Gender Identity, or Gender Expression, Sexual Orientation, Disability, Physical Appearance (Including but not limited to body size), Race, Age, Nationality & National Origin, Religion, Class and/or Economic Background, Specific Political Leaning (As mentioned above, IROC does not discriminate on political leanings, but advocates the values that the Progressive movement embraces)
